Pure dab digital radio broadcasting technology
Dab technology started as early as 1995 by Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation (NRK) as the first organisation to use the new system followed by BBC and other European major firms.
The research started as early as 1981 and the first working module of DAB was introduced in Germany by Institut für Rundfunktechnik GmbH (IRT)
The technology was first initiated in Europe and spread worldwide and more countries are joining. DAB stands for Digital Audio Broadcast and DAB+ is the latest upgrade in the technology.
DAB combines multiple audio streams into a single frequency known as an ensemble by using multiplexing and compression designed to make the signal more robust by increasing average bit rates which limits the available channels in the stream. The standard of dab is promoting quality signals over quantity and availability opposite to the analogue radio transmitions via air.
Dab can be used for more than just audio as data too can be transferred such as text, images and videos. DAB-IP allows the application to use packet to transmit information for example to a Mobile TV.
The technology is revolutionary in its fundamentals because it is believed that it will change the way we use data especially for mobile devices and that it will challenge the current wired cable connections for its viability. It won't require having a land line or having a cable subscription to connect. It has the potential to be used as internet like connection on a go similar to Satellite Internet access but widely available at a low cost.
